Not a victim. A warrior.

The compass was always pointing here.

Growing up, Ally's father used to ask at the dinner table: if you could live anywhere in the world, where would you want to live? Her answer was always Costa Rica, and that was before she had ever set foot in Central America. She just always felt the pull.

Ally comes from a family of immigrants who built a life in the United States from the ground up. Her mother came to the US and worked as a nanny when she first arrived, and the courage it took to carve out that life was instilled in Ally from the start. So was her mother's teaching that travel is the greatest education there is.

That same drive eventually carried Ally to Central America. Starting in 2009, she and her husband, who is originally from Nicaragua, began building their own relocation and retirement plans there, from the ground up. They built a home. They built a business. In the early days they got around on chicken buses, tuk-tuks, and on foot, stretched a very tight budget, and lived with family while things grew. Eventually they built the home the family still owns today, just outside Managua.

Long before it was trending, Ally spent four to six months at a time between Nicaragua and the States, backpacking far beyond what shows up on influencer travel pages. She rode chicken buses with no floorboards. She once sat three hours balanced on a sack of rice and beans, because if you gave up your seat you lost your spot. She lived in parts of Central America surrounded only by locals, with no expat bubble to retreat into. She learned the language. She learned the customs. She made real mistakes, costly ones, that cost time and money, and every one of them became something she now saves her clients from.

All the while she was building a corporate career: more than twenty years in global logistics and fintech, an MBA in International Business and Global Supply Chain, and a professional life spent moving complicated things across borders. Through real loss along the way, she came out more independent, not less, and clearer than ever on her own standards.

She left corporate behind and built Tropical Compass Relocation & Travel from everything that experience gave her: real mistakes made, real lessons learned, and a genuine love for the culture she now calls home.

Why she guides the way she does

Here in Central America, it is not what you know. It is who you know. Community is everything. That is why building a network of vetted professionals, neighbors, and friends you can truly lean on is at the heart of what Ally does.

And her favorite part of the work is hearing your why: your dream, and why you want to carve out your own path. She knows exactly what it feels like to have a dream, feel a little nervous, and find the courage to go anyway. Now the dreamers work with Tropical Compass Relocation & Travel and make it real in a calm, budget-friendly, strategic way, at the right pace for each customized journey.
